Dana Introduces Spicer® D172 Series Heavy-Duty Tandem Axle for Construction, Severe Service Vehicles

Dana Incorporated (NYSE: DAN) today announced the launch of the new Spicer® D172 series heavy-duty tandem axle for construction, heavy-haul, and severe service applications.  The D172 is the latest example of Dana’s commitment to maximizing fleet uptime with lightweight but durable, reliable, and efficient product offerings.

The new axle is more than 60 pounds lighter than existing D170 series tandem axles.  It builds upon Dana’s existing, market-leading heavy-duty product by offering a broad range of gear ratios, from 3.07 to 6.14, to serve a variety of needs.  Wide-face, High-Power Density™ AdvanTEK® gearing maximizes strength while reducing weight.  In addition, a reliable, passive lube management system requires less lube while using a patented meter to optimize the amount of lube flow to the high-efficiency bearings.

“Dana prides itself on our history of providing innovative, durable products for all commercial-vehicle markets,” said Mark Wallace, president of Dana Commercial Driveline Technologies.  “We listened to the needs of fleet professionals and vehicle manufacturers in developing this new tandem axle, which features a number of technologies that set new performance benchmarks in the industry.  Our goal is to help our customers maximize uptime and gain efficiencies.”

Dana will present a comprehensive lineup of driveline technologies and other solutions for commercial vehicles in booth 1005 at the 2018 Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) Annual Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition this week.
