At automatica 2022, the leading international trade fair for automation and robotics, the Special Machinery unit of global automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler will be presenting its portfolio for turnkey production systems in Hall A5, at Booth 307. “Schaeffler Special Machinery offers its customers requirement-based and modular production solutions along the entire value added chain,” says Andreas Schick, Chief Operating Officer at Schaeffler AG. “Our team draws on many years of production knowledge and the highest level of expertise in industrialization and digitization. Irrespective of whether solutions are achieved autonomously or collaboratively, the systems from Schaeffler Special Machinery already meet the requirements for state-of-the-art end products for a wide range of industrial sectors.”

Modular concepts for greater sustainability

Schaeffer Special Machinery has already been developing production solutions for customers, including those outside of the Schaeffler Group, such as well-known manufacturers of energy storage systems, medical technology, consumer goods, and e-mobility, for a number of years. During this period, more than 10,000 concepts have been implemented, such as innovative production systems for battery cell stacks, electric toothbrushes, motor chain saws, or heat pumps for domestic applications. In the field of renewable energies, key successes include production and testing technology for wind turbines and solar panels. “The Schaeffler Special Machinery portfolio includes holistic, flexible, and state-of-the-art production concepts, which sustainably optimize production according to current requirements, such as decreasing product life cycles or increasing demands on product diversity,” says Bernd Wollenick, Head of Special Machinery for the Schaeffler Group. “Our solutions are characterized, in particular, by their outstanding scalability and modularity. The use of standardized modules shortens the implementation times for new systems, and rising demand curves can also be mapped with greater precision, which saves resources and significantly reduces costs.”

Schaeffler looks to agile methods and “simultaneous engineering” when developing individual production concepts, in order to shorten the implementation time through parallel risk development and early risk identification. To enable optimum ease of assembly and thus particularly economical production, Special Machinery also offers consultancy services for product design. One such example is a highly efficient end-of-line test rig, comprising a wide range of tests and software applications developed in-house, with facilities including extensive networking and data tracing. This makes work processes more efficient and sustainably reduces CO2 emissions in production.
